NeighborhoodSuper592 Let the carrier in their reach, all year round, often put snacks in there, treat it as just another place they can sleep in. So they are used to it. If that does not work, wrap your cat in a towel. and place him in the carrier.

jorgentwo For some reason I find it's easier to set the carrier on its back with the door pointing up and then lower the cat in but first so they can't see to plan out their scrabbling points

Curmudgy We always put the carrier out a few days before the appointment. I don't think it helped. We sometimes had to resort to making kittie burritos.

Gregorygregory888888 Cats need to learn that these can be fun and/or rewarding places to enter. You should use these on a routine basis to feed them little snacks. Get them to enter and carry them to their meal. Be creative. Is it guaranteed to work? Not with all cats, but you might be surprised.

lanDOsmond Top 1% Commenter We have comfortable, soft- sided cat carriers that we leave out as cat beds. The cats are aware that they are also carriers and understand that we can zip them up and take them to the vet, so there still can be some shoving and wrassling, but they are traveling in their own spaces so the resistance is pretty half-hearted. They don't mind enough to put up a real fight.

Chance-Work4911 We found that a tiny little puppy harness would fit the cat and once it was on her we could hold her like a suitcase with the harness handle and she would freeze her whole body. It's how we got her in and out of the carrier and also how we kept her from trying to bolt once we got to the vet and needed to get her out.

hippywitch My cats favorite blanket is in their carrier and they fight who gets to nap in it. It's a safe place not a scary place.

Rare Examination_674 For my difficult cat I put the carrier in the bathroom then bring the cat in. Close door in case kitty makes a run for it. I have to sit on the floor and push the cat in then as I'm pushing block the opening with my body. Once the cat is fully in they always turn around so I use that .1 second of time to close the door quick. If kitty gets out they're stuck in the bathroom. Always wear a hoodie

firephoenix0013 I keep my carrier open in my living room so it's never suspicious. And I keep a clean blanket in there so they even sleep in it sometimes. I also switched to a slightly larger dog crate. Both my cats HATE being covered so the extra room eliminates the Spider-Man trying to get them into a small space and gives them room to "hide" in the back.

Ok Veterinarian2715 Top 1% Commenter The most bl ɔdy minded cat we had needed a bit of planning. Top opening carrier open in an accessible location. Beach towel open on table top. Cat plonked on towel & wrapped. Both stuffed in carrier. Not easy.

blessyourheart1987 My kid stuck the cat bed in the carrier and then started reading to him in it just like her does at bed time. Now we just get the carrier set up and the cat will wander in YMMV.

cumdumpsterrrrrrrrrr I scruff my cats for a second to immobilize them, and then lower them into a carrier that is flipped up so that the entrance is pointed up towards the sky. make sure if you scruff your cat to be using your other hand underneath the cat to support their entire weight - don't support any of their weight with the scruff.

KittyKatCatCat I switched to a cat backpack and essentially just jam her in there (through the side) and hold the flaps closed with one hand while zipping with the other. I also wear long sleeves. I guess I also worry less about her head than her arms? Once I get the arms through so she can't cling to the exterior, everything else is basically smooth sailing

flatline000 Top 1% Commenter We bought a carrier made for medium sized dogs that opens both in front and on the top. If we open the top, then one person can hold the cat and the other person can hold their front legs together and we can lower the cat into the carrier without any chance of the cat grabbing the edge before we can close the lid.
